Collective Works Outdoor Classroom

This weekend, as part of Open House London, you will be able to visit our incredible Early Years Outdoor Classroom created by Collective Works. It was developed through workshops with the children, funded through a charity dinner and built by the school carpenter and some volunteers.

The classroom will be open from 10am – 5pm on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September.

In 2017 we asked Collective Works to transform an underutilised space in the Early Years playground into a flexible space for formal learning, informal play and performances by the children.

Collective Works  partnered with OmVed Gardens to arrange a dinner and auction to raise funds for the Outdoor Classroom. Omved Garden’s Chef and advocate for the World Food Programme, Arthur Potts Dawson, prepared a five course meal and the evening raised nearly £3000. With this injection of funds, building commenced in the summer of 2018.

Now complete, we are thrilled to be included in Open House London – one of the few play projects included in the event. The 65 sqm space, which is formed of a larch platform and colourful backdrop, is being used every day by small groups of children for activities such as reading, arts and crafts or storytelling. One of the children’s favourite features is the secret spaces that are too small for adults to fit inside…

A huge thank you to Siri Zanelli and her team at Collective Works for such a unique and innovative creation for our lucky children.

Come and see for yourself!
