Highgate Primary at Parliament with First News

Brexit 2 with Nikki Cox

First News recently contacted Highgate Primary and invited us to attend a debate on the EU Referendum in Speaker’s House, Parliament at the end of May. Six lucky children from the Debating Club were chosen to represent the school.

After meeting and grilling Nicky Cox, the editor of First News, the children moved into the historic Speaker’s House where they were welcomed by the Speaker himself, The Rt Hon John Bercow MP. The Brexit debate soon began, with children from schools around the country putting impressive arguments for remaining and leaving the EU.

Questions were then put to the panel, including from our very own Debating Club. It was a real privilege for the school to take part in this fantastic experience which gave children a voice on the future of their country.
