Flowers Of India Workshop
27th March 25, 7pm – 9pm
During this workshop you will learn to paint and compose flowers as represented in classic Indian designs and acquaint yourself with the various stylisations of flower motifs.
India has a diverse range of artistic traditions which uses a variety of intricate patterns. Among the wide range of motifs that adorn these traditions, flower motifs hold a very special place. From Mughal miniatures, Pichwai paintings, block prints, stone inlay of the Taj Mahal to Kashmiri Papier-mâché, all showing an exquisite range of flowers.
The evidence of flower motif in Indian art dates as far back as the Indus Valley Civilisation, and these motifs adorn the walls of ancient temples in India like the Ajanta and Ellora caves. The blooming lotus in Indian iconography has been around for ages, known as ‘Padma’, a blooming lotus represents purity and is associated with deity worship since time immemorial.
