The Nursery at Highgate Primary

The Nursery at Highgate Primary gives children an exceptional start to their experience of school. Set within a light, relaxed and home-like setting, our nursery provides a welcoming, safe and stimulating environment where children are able to enjoy learning, gain independence and grow in confidence. Children attend Highgate Primary Nursery in the school year in which they have their fourth birthday, therefore the majority of children will start in the September after they turn three. Children may also be admitted in the January if places are available.

Nursery Sessions

During term time, every nursery-aged child is eligible for 15 hours free childcare a week, and 30 hours free childcare a week where both parents are working. Families can select the type of nursery place they require, subject to availability. The three main options are:

Morning Places
9.00am to 12.00 noon, five days a week
15 hours per week.

Afternoon Places
12.30am to 3.30pm, five days a week
15 hours per week.

Full-time Places
9.00am to 12.00 noon and 12.30 to 3.30pm, five days a week,
30 hours per week, with the option of staying for lunch.

Other Options

To support families, the school provides a range of other options allowing families to extend the time children are in nursery.

Afternoon top up
If your child has a morning place, it may be possible to book an afternoon top-up place, allowing children to stay in nursery for the full day (9.00 – 3.30pm including lunch)
Cost £35/day

Stay for lunch
Families with either a morning or full time place have the option of booking a place for lunch (12.00 noon – 12.30pm)
Cost £5/day including a hot meal.

Early Birds
Children can start the school day at 8.00am by booking in to the Early Birds Breakfast Club. Here children enjoy a gentle start to the day with breakfast provided.
These sessions are led by the members of the nursery team who are with the children during the school day.
Cost £10/day

Night Owls
Children attending the afternoon session can remain at school until 6.00 pm by booking in to the Night Owls after-school provision.
These sessions are also led by the members of the nursery team who are with the children during the school day.
Cost £20/day

The school provides a very flexible arrangement for all top-up options, with the possibility of combining options so that a child could potentially be at school from 8.00am to 6.00pm.
Please note, all top-up places are subject to availability on a first come, first served basis.

Nursery Applications

Applications need to be made by the last day of February in the calendar year that the child is due to start nursery, using the Highgate Primary Nursery Application Form here.

Applications are processed during March and parents are formally offered places by the end of March for a September start.

  • January places, if available, will be offered by the beginning of November.
  • If the nursery places are oversubscribed, the Haringey admissions criteria are applied, which are listed on the application form for your reference. If a place is not available, your child will be placed on our waiting list.
  • All applications are subject to proof of eligibility.
