Modern Quilting with Natural Fabrics –  Art Room, Grown Up Workshop – Thursday 21st March, 7pm

Create your textile design artwork using the patchwork and quilting technique. Using natural and leftover fabrics we experiment with textiles and discover different ways of creating patchwork/pieces. You will get to use hand stitching techniques, try out sewing machines and enjoy spending time together.

 Workshop lead

Aika Esenalieva is a fashion designer, maker, and co-founder of Leaping Lizards, a contemporary children’s wear label hand-made in Highgate, London. She used to teach textiles in secondary schools and, has a passion for fabrics, prints, and crafts. Aika is part of our community with two children who attend Highgate Primary School.

Materials

All materials will be provided by Aika and the art room however, please feel free to bring your cotton/silk fabrics and sketch ideas for your designs.

 The art room

The art room at Highgate Primary has been created to provide a space for children and adults to come together to express their inherent creative nature; to learn about the world of the arts and its capacity to make whole the individual. Its mission is based firmly on the belief that being involved in the arts can have a lasting and transforming effect on many aspects of the lives of individuals and communities, whose sense of identity and purpose can be changed through such engagement.
